When the electric motor fails to start, runs intermittently, runs hot, or trips its over content device constantly, there are my various reasons. Sometimes there is a problem inside the power supply, including the branch circuit or the motor control conductor.

General observations

For a three-phase motor, do the following:

Check the appearance of the motor. Search for burns, body damage or fan or shaft cooling.
Rotate the motor shaft manually to check the condition of the bearing. Look for easy, free rotation of the shaft. If the rotation of the shaft is free and smooth, it may be in good condition, otherwise consider replacing, repairing or removing the shaft.
Motor name plates, like motor inspections and inspections, provide valuable information to help assess the true health of a motor. Carefully inspect the name plate and compare the values of the running AMP test (see below) with the value of the name plate.

Earth continuity and resistance test:

Measure the friction between the motor frame (body) and the earth with a multimeter. A balanced engine should read less than 0.5 ohms. Any value greater than 0.5 ohm indicates a motor problem. Further problems may need to be solved.

Power supply test:

For three-phase motors, the expected voltage between each of the three-phase supply lines for the 230/400 V system is neutral from 230V and 400 V. Check that the multimeter is used to apply the correct voltage to the motor.

Make sure the power supply terminal is in good condition. Check the terminal connection bar (U, V and W). The connection type is delta for either star (Y) or three-phase motors.

AC motor winding continuity test:

Check the compatibility of the motor winding from stage to stage (U to V, V to W, W to U) using a multimeter. Until the winding is right, the phase of each phase must be continuous. If the continuity test fails at a certain stage, the engine will probably burn out.

AC Motor Winding Resistance Test:

For phase-to-phase terminals (U to V, V to W, W to U), test the motor winding resistance or ohm reading using a multimeter or ohmmeter. The reading ohms for each winding should be the same (or almost identical). Know that the three steps have identical or almost identical windings.

Insulation resistance test:

Loss of insulation resistance of an electric motor is one of the first signs of motor failure. For a three-phase motor, the isolation resistance can usually be measured between each motor winding or phase and between each motor stage and motor frame (earth) by an insulation tester or Megger 4. Set the voltage level of the insulation resistance tester to 500V.

Check the motor frame (earth) from phase to phase (U to E, V to E, W to E). The minimum test value of motor insulation resistance is 1 meg ohm (1 mH).

Running Amps Test:

Check full load amps (FLAs) with the appropriate meter when the motor is turned on or with a full preference clamp-meter unnamed napplet FLA. Deviations from the rated FLA can test the engine.
